Technology overview

THE CAN™ is a modular heat recovery and air purification system that uses currently unused flue-gas heat and the energy content of warm, humid or contaminated extracted process air. The recovered energy can be fed back into district heating, domestic hot water, process water or building heating.

For gas-engine power plants in combined heat and power, and for operators of gas turbines and absorption chillers, it delivers outstanding efficiency and optimised operation. District heating, biomass and gas-boiler heat production, industrial utilities, swimming pools and spas: measurable savings potential.

Water-based air cleaning, reduced point-source emissions, measurable ESG results. The investment fits energy-performance contracts and European funding programmes (BAFA, PNRR, UFI).

Cleaning and heat extraction

Extraction

Gas or air enters at the bottom, driven by the unit's own fan.

Water-gas contact

Cold water sprayed from above: intense heat and mass transfer.

Separation

Water-soluble components, aerosols and particles pass into the scrubbing liquid, then filtration.

Heat extraction

The heat pump recovers the heat; the condenser conditions the air.

Six value propositions in one system6
  • Heat recovery with heat pump
  • Air cleaning, water-based filtration
  • Humidity control
  • Reduced point-source emissions
  • Modular, cascadable installation
  • Measurable savings potential

Applications and models

Available

CAN PR

Comfort air handling: filtration, heat recovery, humidity control. Treatment of low-temperature waste-heat air in industrial halls, with a heat pump.

Air flow1,000 to 15,000 m³/h
Temperature25 to 60 °C
Capacity15 to 200 kW
Humidity10 to 100 % RH
Cascademax. 32 units
Target areas

textiles, paper, welding shops, plastics production, industrial ventilation, spas and swimming pools.

Unique value

According to the manufacturer's source material, energy savings of 50 to 70 percent can be achieved by replacing a steam boiler. Indicative value: no independent measurement report is available yet.

Available

CAN PR-HT

High-temperature air handling: heat recovery, filtration. Treatment of high-temperature flue gas and process waste heat.

Air flow1,000 to 15,000 m³/h
Temperature60 to 600 °C
Capacity700 to 2,100 kW
Humidity10 to 100 % RH
Cascademax. 10 units
Target areas

district heating plants, biomass boilers, industrial furnaces, power plants, gas engines.

Unique value

flue-gas heat recovery, capture of contaminants.

Coming soon In development

CAN PR-HT-PWR

What is new

Replacing electricity demand with heat energy. A compressor covers the heat pump's energy demand, so the system also runs off-grid.

Target areas

Industrial sites far from the grid, off-grid applications, plants with high electricity demand.

Unique value

Energy self-sufficiency, maximum energy efficiency built on the existing CAN PR-HT functions.

Technical parameters will be published at launch.

Modular capacity: 1,000 to 15,000 m³/h air flow per module; the 15,000 m³/h unit is 2.4 m wide and the system scales in parallel cascade up to 60,000 m³/h. The actual size is defined by air volume, temperature, contaminants and operating hours.

Fields of application

Key application area

THE CAN™ offers a modular retrofit for existing, continuously operating gas-engine, biogas, boiler and industrial energy systems. For gas-engine power plants in combined heat and power and for operators of gas turbines and absorption chillers, it provides outstanding efficiency and optimised operation.

Primary application point

Currently unused flue-gas heat, and warm, humid or contaminated extracted process air.

  • Full-cycle service model
  • Worldwide representation and distribution network development
  • Energy-saving asset management
  • On-site survey and measurement
  • Categorised offer based on measured data
  • Modular installation next to the existing technology

From pre-screening to verified performance5
  1. Quick pre-screening: problem, air flow, potential value
  2. On-site measurement: mass and energy balance, sampling
  3. Technical and business model: equipment selection, useful heat, payback range
  4. Detailed design: mechanical, electrical, HVAC integration
  5. Commissioning and verification: before-and-after measurement, accredited report

Performance commitment

  • Tied to on-site measurement
  • Categorised in advance
  • Accountable with measured data

Every offer is built on the site's measured data; the expected savings are defined after the survey and can be categorised and planned in advance.

Business case

Payback typically between 4 and 5 years, depending on the funding and savings schemes (energy-efficiency obligation scheme, European programmes, the value of the recovered heat).

Service cooperation: 5+ years.
Warranty: 2+3+5 years with extended warranty, continuous remote monitoring and maintenance.

50 to 70 % energy savings (manufacturer's indicative figure)

The energy savings and energy cost savings figures shown are different indicators, so they cannot be compared directly or added together. The net savings expected for a given project are determined on the basis of on-site data, under comparable operating conditions, also taking into account the system's own energy consumption.
